New Haven eyeing way to connect Orange Street, Route 34

(3/9/2013) New Haven Register - ... The issue for the city, engineers and the site’s developer is the changes in grade throughout the area, according to Economic Development Administrator Kelly Murphy, and how to manage traffic.

“The challenge is, if you walk down Orange Street ... you want to reconnect over toward the train station,” Murphy said. “So we’re working on the hard engineering of it. How do we get the highway to come over?”

Or, ideally, how do you get Orange Street to “meet” the curtailed connector at a city intersection, as Orange Street rejoins South Orange on the other side of what is now no-pedestrian’s-land.
